There has been much discussion revolving around the topic of whether an advertisement is allowed to be directed towards young children or not. In my opinion, commercials orientated towards babies shouldn’t be presented on a television. I will explain my position providing the examples to support my point of view.
First of all, children’s mind is not able to perceive information from commercials at all. Once, I have seen an article, where the scientists were investigating babies’ mind and how children react to different pictures and movies, especially advertisements. It was shown, that children mostly perceive variations of bright colours and movements, but they are not able to get the main idea behind the slides. It means that commercial oriented on children don’t make sense, because they just don’t see in it the main product, they can see only a colourful picture.
Second of all, small children simply don’t have any money they can spend under the influence of the advertisement. So, I can suppose that parents become a consumer in this way because they buy all toys or games for children. Somewhat, the advertisement influence directly on adults, because they mainly decide whether to buy particular products for their child or not. Therefore, on behalf of the companies, to make a commercial appealing primarily for parents rather than for children.
Thirdly, it is especially easy to manipulate with the young minds. A young mind has a desire to get something as fast as it is possible. Children are not able to realise and to ponder whether it will be deliberate purchase or not, and of course, a child doesn’t know the value of money. I assert that showing commercials on television isn’t fair because It is manipulation with the desires of the children.
In conclusion, I want to say that the main idea of commercials is to make people buy some products. I suppose, that babies are the worse auditorium for understanding and catching the main idea of advertising. I hope that the examples given above have sufficiently expressed my opinion.
