Essay topics:

In 1995 a microscopic fungus called Phytophthora ramorum, or P. ramorum, was first detected in the forests of the western United States. P. ramorum infects trees and causes particularly serious damage in oak trees: in many infected oaks, leaves wither rapidly, large cracks appear in the bark, and the trees die. A spread of P. ramorum represents a serious threat to the forests in the western states. Several methods of protecting the forests have been proposed.First, stopping P. ramorum spores from spreading would surely be an effective

The article states that a spread of Phytophthore ramorum represents a serious threat to the western states' forest, and it provides three protecting methods. However, the lecturer cast doubt on each reason and explains who they are not effective or practical.
First, the article claims that stopping P. ramorum spors from spreading would completely protect the uninfected trees against the fungus. In contrast, the professor refutes this point by explaining that this fungus spors spread by rainfalls and with reaching to rain stream, spores spreading control would be imposible. He avers that cleaning shoe and bycicles tire cleaning won't help to stop spores spreading at all.
Second, the article posits that there are a few antifungal chemical compound which can be used to protect the oak tree in the western forest. The professor demonstrates the difficulties of his method by saying this that this fungicidal should be injected in the infected trees trunk every sevral months. He concedes that it is will be practical to do this chores for whole trees in a vast forest. Overall, he conclude that this method is imparctical and expensive.

Third, the reading propose aonther way to control this fungus by a different approch which named, clear cut. It says that in this method all infected area including the oak trees and the surrounded vegatation should be cut and burned to extinct this fungus in that environment. However, the professor contends this proposal by explaining that this mehtod has a big disadvantage. Maybe this method can clear a large part of infected trees but It will destroy the vegatation in that area which some of them won't be come back easily. The professor describe this as a big ecologicald amage and disaster.
