In view of the reading, the author enumerates lots of benefits which can create by considering taxes for cigarette smokers, such as one exists for unhealthy foods, by pointing out 3 reasons of support. Finding the statements arguable, the lecturer casts doubt on the claim made by the article and presents piece of evidence in contrary.
At first, the author argues that it can provide a dissuade situation which smoker do not use the cigarette again since not only should they pay money for the buying this but also they should pay money for taxes, so they buy less cigarette to manage their money. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that the taxes could not have necessarily effect on buying less cigarette and it may be caused buy less-quality one in same quantity. In this situation, it can create a more obnoxious effect on their health.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that the income of taxes can spend on cover the medical cost, on both smoker and nonsmoker people. As a matter of fact, it is logical to people who want to have healthier life, pay less medical costs when they get some harmful effect from other people. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that it is a good idea that people pay for the consequence of what they do, but when we consider low-income and high-income, it is not fair since the result of effect is not equal and it can create a much greater burden for smaller income.
Finally, the author asserts the significant effect of these taxes on government's revenue and its effect on different project as the last point for supporting the benefits of taxes. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by elucidating that the specific effect of this taxes on the government's revenue may cause the encoragement of government to do not set a ban for using the cigarette in different places since they really do not want loss of this huge income!
