Archeological artifacts
In this set of materials, the writer strongly postulates that the department of Archaeology has faced many troubles and complications in Britain during discovery and research on old cultural artifacts which are of great value. On the other hand, the professor explains that in 1990, new rules and regulations have been introduced that brought changes in the field of Archaeology. Also ameliorated the three conditions provided by the author in the passage.
First and foremost, the passage begins by asserting that from 1950, there were many building projects going on to accommodate the increasing population of Britain. So many valuable remains of great interest were lost during digging the base of the new structure. Instead of protecting ancient assets from damage, they continued with the construction.
In contrast, the speaker states that before construction, the site has to be thoroughly checked in order to find any precious art pieces. If found any, the investors and government officials along with archaeologists should devise a plan to preserve priceless items. They should do it by constructing on either side or completely eliminating the building. Or moreover, record and save it before proceeding further.
In fact, the professor further states that the cost of preserving artifacts would be paid by the investors. Also, the expenses of study at the construction site would be paid by constructors. These claims refute the author's implication of insufficient money for archaeological research. The government was paying charges for expenses of the investigation in the twentieth century but, that left other plans incomplete. In addition, the government has declined the funding now.
Ultimately, the article wraps its argument by stating that the people who chose archaeology as a profession had trouble finding jobs. And they did not get paid for the study. However, the professor denies this point by declaring that professional archaeologists were hired. They got rewarded for the experimentation and then analyzing records. They also get paid for writing research papers. Furthermore, it states the demand of expert Archaeologists was great.
