Essay topics: TPO-45 - Integrated Writing Task
The explanations of the fact that animals of the past were appreciably larger than they are today are discussed in the reading and in the lecture. Although the writer gives us some plausible explanations of the fact, the lecturer disagrees with the analysis and claim that the author has failed to use a common sense to verify the data. Viewpoints of the writer and the speaker will be discussed in details below.
Firstly, the passage states that it is believed that atmosphere of the early earth had a greater volume of oxygen which stimulated growth of living creatures. The audio suggests that this prospect is dubious due to the vast activity of volcanic activity at the time of dinosaurs which led to emission a huge volume of harmful gases. Thus the plant's air had rather less oxygen than the writer tends to state.
Secondly, the author claims that the early earth had the abundant plant life which provides the ancient mammals and reptiles with plethora of nutrients. The speaker casts doubt on the stance because unearthed fossils showcase that those plants had a low level of nutrient due to the poisonous atmosphere and low level of CO2 which is required for the plants' growth.
Finally, the text avers that the early earth did have a warmer climate and animals which inhabited the planet did not need to spend energy on keeping themselves warm. The voice from the audio debunks the prospect. He claims that today's world do not support the writer's belief. In fact, contemporary animals and humans who live in warm climate tend to have relatively small size because a big body is a disadvantage in warm conditions because it requires eating a lot of food to sustain a needed level of energy.
