A little over 2,200 years ago, the Roman navy attached the Greek port city of Syracuse. According to some ancient historians, the Greeks defended themselves with an ingenious weapon called a “burning mirror”: a polished copper surface curved to focus

According the reading passage burning mirror is a myth, it need not be true because Greek's don't know how make and use the burning mirror because to make large burning mirror they need large piece of mirror and more more they used only copper as weapon during war time, so it is not possible them to make a burning mirror. But the speaker states that making the large curvature mirror is possible because they can joint the 1000 of small pieces and they made large burning mirror.

secondly, reading passage suggests that in order to burn the ship from such long distance at least it take ten minutes if ship not moving on the water but it's quite impossible according to the reading passage. but the lecturer refutes this by stating that Romans used the water proof material which highly flammable. So in order burn the ship, it need only few seconds only.

thirdly, reading passage states that when Greeks are fighting they use to fight with fire arrow from 30 meter distance and they are specialized in that so there no need of burning mirror for them. but this statement contrast by speaker by stating that Romans are very well cable to defend the fire arrows so the Greeks might have used the burning mirror technique to defeat the Romans.

finally, speaker says that because they used the small pieces of mirror to form large burning, the Romans was cable to defend the fir arrows and they use the water proof material on their ship because of all these reason Greeks used the burning mirror according to the speaker.
