Recently, there has been a ton of debate about solving the significant problems caused by nutria. More specifically, in regard to the passages, the writer puts forth ideas with three proposals that could solve the problem. In the listening passage, in contrast, the lecturer is quick to point out that there are some serious flaws in each claim. In fact, the professor believes there should be another option and addresses each difficulty raised in the reading text in detail.
To begin with, the author brings up the idea of building fences with sheet metal and metal wire to prevent nutria from further constructing habitats. Likewise, the lecturer agrees that nutria cannot chew through metal fences but can dig under them. Thus, according to the points of the lecture, the construction of metal fences would be useless.
On top of that, one group of farmers, represented by the writer, thinks that removing the excess water from drainage would slow the processes of reproduction and habitat. Of course, though, not all experts in this field believe this is accurate. Again, the speaker specifically contends that rain would repeatedly fill the drainage, causing farmers to drain it. He further argues that low-lying regions would be at risk of doing so since they have limited access to water.
Last but not least, the author wraps up his argument by positing that trapping a number and eradicating it is another key. Unsurprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim, contending that the procedure would be ineffective since pregnant nutria can give birth to thirty infants and the chances of capturing and spotting them are low.
To sum up, although both the passages talk about the same topic, they both hold conflicting views. For this reason, it would be evidently for them to be on the same page, so there should be further debate to find common ground on this issue.
