TOEFL T P O 49 - Integrated Writing Task

In this set of materials, the reading and the lecture are both discussing humpback whales wherein the reading states that humpback whales migrate long distances by using stars as navigation. Moreover, the reading provides three possible reasons of support. However, the professor explains that the arguments presented by the author are unreliable, and refutes each of the author's points.
First, the author of the reading claims that whales are clever mammals. They have sensor stimuli's systems that use to navigate at night by stars. The professor refutes this point by explaining that no evidence connects between intelligence and navigation. Furthermore, he mentions that dogs are not intelligent animals, but they use the star as navigation.
Secondly, the reading says that whales migrate in a straight line by using stars as external signs. However, the professor says that animals use the earth's magnetism that a real fact. Considering this argument, using stars as external signs is contradicted.
Finally, the reading states that whales use spy-hopping, rising their head over the water, to look at the stars. The professor opposes this point by explaining that sharks use this rare behavior not to look at the stars but to look at the animals for hanging. In addition to that, whales do this rare behavior in the day also.
In conclusion, the three points that made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The first, second and third points in the lecture demonstrate that whales use stars for navigating is in doubt.
