TOEFL Writing Task 1
From what has been indicated in the requirements and the talk, a newspaper
selection comittee were in the progress of choosing one between the two
finalists for their scholarship award. There were three main components to
consider: the candidate's major and grades, their social activities and community
activities.
First factor was the two finalist's major and grades. They both wanted to be a
professional journalist after graduation; however, their majors are not the same.
Becky majored in Journalism while Routh majored in Biology. They both took
Journalism classes, and they both receive grade A for all of these classes. Rough
overall GPA may be higher since he had straight A through, while Becky had
half A and half B.
The second one would be their proactiveness in social activities. They both
spent quite a lot of time on campus. Becky played music in the school orchestra,
attended sports events. On the other hand, Routh seemed to be more active in
research activities and he spent most of his campus time in the lab.
The last but not least factor was their community service. Becky did volunteer
work at the local hospital and elderly center. And Routh participated in local
supporting events.
In general, these two finalist are considerably equal in comparison with each
other over the set of cri.
