The lecturer disputes the author's suggested claims that some of the information in Chevalier memoir are not accurate. He provides three concrete reasons to cast doubt about the author's claims.
First, the according to the author Chevalier was not a rich person because he borrowed money from rich merchants. However, the lecturer find this idea debatable. She points out that Chevalier indeed was a rich person and borrowing does not signify a sign of poverty. She contends that Chevalier may have borrowed some money, but this was only for a temporary period while he cash out the money generated from the sales of his properties.
Second, the lecturer contradict the fallacy of the passage that the information in the memoir about his conversation with Voltaire was not accurate because the later took place long time before he had a chance to report it. The lecturer contends that Chevalier was always writing notes about his contacts and he always refers back to them when he wrote the memoir.
Finally, the author claims that the information in the memoir about Chevalier's escape from prison is inaccurate because there is some evidence to support the idea that he was released from prison an did not escape. However, the lecturer refutes this theory. She suggests that theoretically he did escape from prison because non of the other prisoners were able to escape inspite of having strong relationships with influential people. More over, there are proves that the jail had to fix the ceiling of Chevalier room after his escape.
