TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The reading and the speaker discuss whether workers work four days per week is more beneficial than working entire weekdays from different perspectives. The author of the reading believes that working four days a week brings many advantages. However, the speaker casts doubt on the claims in the article. He says that none of those ideas are convincing.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that working four days per week will benefit company because employee will be more alert. Thus, they will make small mistakes. This point is challenged by the speaker. He restates the fact that companies will have to hire more workers. That means they have to spend more money for training them. Moreover, companies need to have more office spaces and buy more computers. As a result, it costs a lot of money of the companies rather than increase their income.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that shortened workweek will profit the whole country. It will help to reduce the rate of unemployment because the rest of week will be shifted by others. The speaker refutes this idea by saying that company owners will arrange job for workers who work four days like they work five days per week. Therefore, the massive of work needs to done will be the same. Hence, it has no chance for others to have job according to the mention of the article.
Finally, the author of the reading states that working four days a week enables workers to enjoy their personal lives. The speaker, on the other hand, opposes this point by speaking that it will reduce the standard of living of workers in some points because they may lose the opportunity to be promoted and to increase their skills of working. Moreover, owners may like to have five days workers than four days to fulfill their purpose. Therefore, workers may lose their job
