Both the article and the lecture discusses about a painting named "The portrait of an elderly Woman" by Rembrandt, who was a famous of the seventeenth century Dutch painters. The article doubts about the painting that it may not be painted by Ramberndt whereas the lecture describes detail incidents happened after the original painting was made and how it disguised the original style of the the artist and finally proves this painting to be actually done by Rambrandth himself.
First, the article state the concentration of Rambrandt on fine details which was missing the painting. Hence the lady in the painting was wearing a white linen cap mostly used by servants along with luxurious fur coat which obviously cannot be afforded by any servant. On the contrary the lecturer reveals that the fur collar was painted around 100 years after the original painting to present aristocracy in the lady and increase the value of the painting. But originally the Rambrandt used a very simple fur collar which is actually matching withe lenin cap. With this the lecturer argues the painting is actually made by Rambrandt.
Secondly, the author says about the anomaly of lighting in the painting as the face of the lady was enlightened by a light from the below. Whereas the dark color should absorb light and face should be more darker. As Rambrandt is well know for his mastry in light and shadow, this painting was doubted for a actual painting by him. However the lecture says after careful examination and pigment analysis it was found that the dark color was added afterwards and the original painting actually contians a light coloured fur collar, so the face lighting was actual in the original painting.
Fianlly, this particular piece of painting was made on wood panel, which was made of multiple pieces of wood, as the author claims, which also is not a regular style of Rambrandt. But the lecture states more details as these new wood pieces were added when the fur collar was repainted to make the painting grand and increase its value. Moreover the original piece of wood used in the painting is from tree from where another piece of wood has been used for Rambrandt's another painting of his self portrait.
To conclude, though the article states multiple doubtful aspects of the painting whereas, the lectures describes the incidents behind the scene, how the actual painting has been altered and refutes all the arguments made in the article and proved the painting was actually painted by Rambrandt.
