Rembrandt was one of the famous painters of his time and the author discusses about one of his painting that was attributed to him and the evidences are against it. In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the argument presented in the readintg passage. She states that the painting that reading discusses is Rembrandt work indeed and it was assessed closely and it is proven.
First of all, the author claims that collar fur and the woman clothes are not match. However , the speaker states this collar fur was added to the painting hundred years later by someone else. In other words, the fur was not part of the original painting and was added over the top maybe for increasing the value of painting by some one else.
Moreover, the author points out that Rembrandt was master of shadowing and the painting was not correct from light point of view. However, the professor refutes that by stating that original painting without that collar fur was perfect in terms of light and shadow and was realistic. She says added fur to original painting made that incongruency in light and shadow.
Lastly, the professor states that the glued wood peices were added at the same time of adding the fur to the painting. So, the original painting was in single large panel of wood. In fact, the large single panel of wood was dated to the time of Rembrandt's other work.
