The reading and the lecture discuss whether the American customers would be interested in buying the ecocertified woods or not. The author of the reading provides three reasons to prove that Americans unlikely to buy these products, however, the lecturer refutes all these claims in the reading.
First, the article says that the US citizens are more affected by the advertisements and will not pay attention to those new products. The speaker, on the other hand, rebuts this assumption by stating the Americans can distinguish between the truthful and dishonest ads. Besides, they have a lot of confidence in the private organizations that evaluate to the companies and their products.
Second, the text argues that the price of the certified products will be much higher than the other woods. Conversely, the professor rejects this notion. He explains that would be true only if the difference in price is noticeable, but if it is just a small ratio, the people would prefer the certified woods. Moreover, he elaborates that the Americans know the value of preserving the environment and will pay for these woods if the limit of difference does not exceed 5% .
Third, the passage contends that some American companies does not pay attention to the global market because their customers are mainly in the united states. The speaker, in contrast, refutes this supposition and he asserts that the American companies keep abreast with the development in the international markets because they realize that some foreign companies could invade the American market if they did not keep themselves updated with the latest trends in the wood trade. Therefore, it is better to adapt these new certification policy to maintain their own clients.
