The reading and the lecture are both about the certification to wood companies that help to conserve and recycle materials. The author of the reading gives three reasons to support his idea that the companies around the world have adopted this program except the wood companies of the U.S A. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article that none of those arguments are convincing.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that Americans do not trust in advertising and they also do not pay attention to the eco- certification label. This point is challenged by the lecture. He says that Americans watch the advertising selectively. They really concern about the eco-certification and they are confident in this advertising and have a good reaction on it.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that the cost of the eco-certified wood is more expensive than the price of uncertified wood. Meanwhile American concern about price. The lecture rebuts this reason that it is true that Americans care about the cost of materials, but only if the cost of one competition is too high or too low compared to other companies. If the cost about 5 percent they will choose this materials in order to protect the environment.
Finally, the author of the reading states the reading expresses that American companies do not have to worry about eco-certification because most of the wood companies are in the united states , so they do not export so much wood internationally. The professor counters this idea by saying that even though the wood industry do not need to compete with international companies. This foreing companies could see an important target in the United States for the people who cares about the eco-certification and become competitors with the national companies.
