The article states that people are reading far less literature, novels and so on, and this will affect their culture and future of the literature and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that, although people are spending less time to read the literature it won't affect their culture and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that the decline in book reading is more sharp for literature and it worsens when we understand that nothing else has the intellectual stimulations that literature does. On the other hand, the professor refutes this point by stating that many other topics and subjects can stimulate intellectually more than literature such as science.
Second, the passage claims that people are reading superficial poorly written instead of pieces of literature and also they waste their time watching TV, listening to music, etc. By the way, the lecture contends this by stating that, people read less bok in general because the culture has changed and people are willing to be stimulated by something more directly such as good music or an interesting movie and they can influence their culture much better than a novel or literature.
Finally, the reading avers that reading less literature is taking place during a period when good literature is being written. The lecture opposes this point by declaring that we can't blame the readers because of this problem, it is the author's faults since their writtings and novels are to difficult to read and need a specialist that's why people don't tend to read them.
