The reading and lecture both the discuss if the portrat represents Jane Austen or not. While the reading provides three reasons to support that portrat resemble Jane Austen, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading states that this is Austin's portarat because Austin's family gave permission to use this portarat after many decades of her death. On the other hand, the professor argues this notion by saying that it is hard to say that this portarat resembele Austin. This is becasue the family gave that permission many year after her deat. So, the author might not see her. As a result, we are not sure if it is Austin's image or not.
In addition, the article shows that the face of the painting is similar to the Cassandra's sketch. However, the professor rejects this idea by pointing out that Austin's relatives are very large. She has many cousins. So, this portrat may be resemble any on of her teenagers cousins. In addition, this painting similar to on of her neath called Marie. As a result, this portart could not be Austin.
Finaly, the reading mentions that the style of the picture is the same style of Humphery who is famous in the wealthy families. In addition, he was in the same period when Austin was teenage. Nevertheless, the professor questions this idea by explaining that this painting is only similar to Humphrey's style, but the stamp on the back sold by man called williom. Furthermore, Willim did not sell any stamps in London when Auston was teenages, but he started to sell stamps when she was tweenty seven years old. So, this is not Austin's painting.
