The reading states that the population of birds declining because of the rapid growth of the humans including the urban development, the declining of wilderness areas and the poison dedicated to the insects and pets may harm the birds. However, the professor cast doubt on each idea of the author.

On the other hand, the lecturer rejected that point by saying that some kinds of birds may not adapt to the urban life, but there are many birds that are living in urban. Also, she said that the construction workers of urban development complaining about the increasing population of birds.
Secondly, the reading indicates that most wild areas used in agriculture which causes a declining of wilderness for birds. In contrast, the lecturer argued the expansion of the agricultural use of land is decreasing time to time in the US. Furthermore, she said American agriculture has developed grains that is beneficial and efficient than others even though in small areas, so, they do not need to destroy the wild lands.
Lastly, the passage claims that the poison called pesticides, which are dedicated to killing the harmful insects to the agriculture or home pets may appear on the water and the food of birds which causes the declining of the birds. Nonetheless, the lecturer made a counterclaim to this idea by explaining that people developed new crops that is a pet resistant and not attract birds.
