TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya wi
The lecture and reading are both about Torreya taxifolia, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida. The author stated that there are three ways to save the declining of the Torreya. However, the lecturer rebuts the claim of the author. He is of the opinion that these ways are not satisfactory to save the decline of Torreya. The lecturer cast doubt on the main point made in the reading by provoding three reasons.
To begin with, the author argues that the first way is to re-establish Torreya in the same location in which it thrived for thousand of years.Neveretheless, the lecturer refute this by mentioning that the location on which it is thrived for thousand of years are now affected by global warming.Furthermore,The current environement becomes drier.
Secondly,According to the reading the author stated that the second way is to move Torreya to an entirely different loaction.Howbeit, the lecturer stated that Black loctus is a tree which was moved to north for the purpose of change in location and properous growth of Black loctus, but such tree was expanded in new location in such a way that other species were in endangered. Moreover, other species were mostly extinct due to such move.
Finally, the author posist that the third way is to preserve Torreya in research centres. Nonethless, the lecturer believes that resereach areas are not viable to protect whole population of Torreya from diseases for long term.He feels that preservation in Research areas is not best solution to protect popultaion of Torreya.
