TPO 20 Integrated essay
In this set of materials, the article posits that "let it burn policy" is damaging the United States environment and economy due to burning the forests, and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer raises questions on the ideas and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author of the reading passage states that Yellowstone fires will harm the plants and trees in the park. In contrast, the professor cast doubt on this point by saying that in this case fire doesn't have negative aspects, but it has creative effects on the plants. According to the professor, after happening fires many new types of plants and trees had chance to grow in place of previous plants.
The next explanation which is uttered in the article is that this policy has terrible consequences on the wild life such as deer too. On contrary, the lecturer explains that this policy has positive effects on animals just like plants. She mentions that with growing new plants, more kind of animals can find a great habitat to live in. For instance, rabbits are living in this area while they couldn't live before the fire. Adverting new sort of animals like rabbits is a good aspect of this policy that we shouldn't ignore it.
Finally, the author of the article asserts that with letting the forest to burn less tourists would like to visit the park which results in less economy profits. Conversely, the speaker finds this idea dubious and indicates that this comment would be true if fires are happening every year. The professor claim that fires happen rarely and it is a natural part of the environment. So, it is recommended to not interrupt the natural process.
