The reading and lecture are both about genetically altered trees. The author of the reading feels that changed trees are beneficial in some ways. The lecturer challanges the claims made by writer. She is of the opinion that these explanations are faulty.
To start with, the author argues that altered trees tend to survive in harsh condition, but this specific argument is challanged by the lecturer. She claims that these genetically changed woody plants are only aimed to experience specific circumstances, and cannot endure other situations.Additionally, she states survived few species of natural floras will engulf the destroyed area even though other species are wiped because of natural problems.
Secondly, the writer suggests that planting trees with new genetical structure will result in better profit. In the article, it is said that peasant will acquire money more briskly thanks to rapidly growing trees. However, the speaker refutes this by remarking that seeds of artificially made trees are more expensive and unlikely to be found from wilderness. She elaborates on this by bringing up the point that peasant will be required to buy new seeds whenever they plant the trees.
Finally, the author posits that extreme utilization of wild trees will decline in the value because new trees which grow faster will be enough supply of woods. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that the trees will pose more damage to naturally growing floras. She notes that new trees will consume much energy such as sunlight, nutrition of soil and water in order to grow rapidly. Therefore, amount of energy that wild plants uses will decline in amount vastly.
