The article claims that the zebra mussel, which is a freshwater shellfish, can be spread in the North America and support three reasons of support. In contrast, the professor expresses we now can control the spreading the zebra mussel, which is impossible before; therefore, refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the text claims that the way ships have spread the zebra mussel and this species will soon colonize all of North America. On the contrary, the speaker opposes this point by saying that ships can vacant their reservoirs before to reach the North America. So, this species can not travel with ships, and spread in North America.

Second, the reading mentions that the zebra mussel can dominate in new habits, because this species has not any a natural predators and high rate of reproduction. Conversely, the professor refutes this matter by expressing that the lack of food resources can lead birds to eat the zebra mussel. Hence, the zebra mussel can not dominate in the new habitat.

In the third place, the passage explains that zebra mussel can decrease the overall fish population because this species eats plankton, which is the main food for many freshwater fish species. In contrast, the lecturer states that the zebra mussel can impose negative effects on plankton, while it can have positive effects on freshwater fish. In fact, it could help to increase another fishes.
