Little ice age
The passage states that scientists are really eager to discover the main reasons of little ice age which has been occurred from about the year 1350 until 1900 CE. The article raises the reasons for happening of this period but the lecturer refutes all of them by saying that scientists have gained novel information which are in contrast with the mentioned reasons.
First, the reading passage claims that cold streams of oceans, which are due to melting of polar glaciers, can be a possible reason. however the lecturer argues that those cold currents just affect Europe and Northern America. but the ice age has happened in South Africa and New Zealand too. thus, this reason is not sensible.
Second, the article asserts that great amount of volcanic dust and sulfur gas could block the suns radiation and it has led to temperature drop in the Earth. The professor challenges this claim. He avers that the cloud of dust and gaseous had not been dense enough to cause temperature decline. The dense atmosphere of volcanic dust and gases has some visual indications such as colorful sun or colored snowfall. however there is no report of these odd visual effects.
Third, the passage states that great amount of trees and jungles causes a decline in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The lecturer refutes this reason by saying that people population started to grow up again and the percentage of trees and jungles decreased in order to field preparation for cultivation plants and gaining food source. thus, absorption of carbon dioxide by trees is not a convincing reason for temperature drop.
