Writing and lecture are both about dinosaur fossils, which were discovered in Alaska's North Slope. It is allegedly believed that edmontosaurus used to be migratory animals. On the one side, the writer asserts this in the article by presenting some hypotheses. On the other side, the lecturer casts doubts on the claims made in the article, underlining that the proofs are not convincing when compared with real facts.
First, it was not necessary for dinosaurs to migrate in order to find food during winter. The writer states that the winters were very cold, and thus it was impossible for plant to grow. However, the lecturer rejects this argument, by adding that summers were warmer than today, and because of the high temperatures large quantities of vegetation were produced. Therefore, the plants which were dying during summer, covered the land and produced nutrients for the animals. So, this standpoint contradicts the passage.
Second, animals live in herds for numerous motifs such us defending from predators, not only to migrate. For instance, the Roosevelt Elks, which live in Western North America, do not migrate from one part to another, even though they are organized in herds. Thereby, the author's point of view is not valid.
Third, only mature dinosaurs were able to walk for long distances. The writer affirms that edmontosaurus were physically adapted to walk thousands of kilometers towards warmer places. Anyway, the lecturer infringes this by underlining that their pubs could not travel that much, and consequently they would have slow down the herd, preventing dinosaurs from reaching other lands. Thus, the theory sustained by the author lacks of realism. To summarize, the author and the speaker seem to be in totally disagreement regarding this topic.
