In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses several reasons to claim on the reality of what the Ancient Greek had this ability to build "burning mirror". While in the listening the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and believes that all of the reason that mentioned in the passage is not convincing.
First of all, in the text, it is clearly mentioned that the ancient Greek had not enough technology advance to could make this big mirror. However, the professor claims that the experiments show that the feather of copper makes this idea practical. Because the Greek could made many small pieces mirrors and then attach these pieces together and made into the big mirror.
In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that the experiment that shows that this mirror can be burning ships in ten minutes, thus it make impossible that this kind of mirror presented at the Greek times. She says that the Roman ships did not build just from wood, but other materials like sticky materials, for example, kick. And the experiment substantiated that kick can burn by this mirror jus on one second.
Finally, in the text, it is stated that the mirror could not the improvement on the weapon that the Greek already had. the professor subscribes that the Roman was familiar with the Greek flaming arrows but this mirror could completely surprise the Roman and was much more effective.
