TPO-40 - Integrated Writing Task Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the possibility of living on planet Venus and offer opposing views on it. The author in that passage states that due to aggrassive conditions on the Venus it is impossible for humans to live there someday. However, The professor in the lecture challenges what the author proposes and refutes all the reason by providing scientific facts about having floating station in the atmosphere of Venus instead of having a station on the surface of the planet.

First, The author highlights that the atmospheric pressure for Venus's surface is too great for the equipment and the humans and there is no change for them to bear this pressure. Not having been convinced, the speaker asserts that atmospheric pressure at 50 Km above the surface of the Venus is approximately equal to that of the Earth. He further proceeds to say that in this pressure the spacecraft carrying humans can float in the Venus atmosohere without getting crushed.

Moreover, the passage contends that it is necassary to provide water and oxygen supply for the station from Earth which is practically impossible. On the contrary, the lecture declares that there a lot carbon dioxide resources on the Venus and it is possible to gain oxygen and water from these sources by chemical processes. He delineates by using this method, the humans in the station above the Venus can have the resources of oxygen and water without any help from outside of Venus.

Finally, the lecturor does not approve the third reason provided by the reading passage which is lack of sunlight on the Venus's surface. He elabotares that on the 50 Km orbit above the surface, the clouds are not that much thick and there are enough light for the spacecraft traveling around the Venus surface. He continues to say that not only the sunlight, but also its reflections from the clouds are adequate to produce electricity from solar power cell and consequently, humans can live there.
