The lecture and the reading passage both discuss how glass using for the modern buildings is dangerous for birds. The reading claims that there are tree solutions to solve this problem. In contrast, the lecture says that these solutions are not effective.
First of all, according to the reading the architectures could use one way glass that is lead birds in one direction. When birds can not through a glass, they will grasp that a window is barrier. Therefore, they will not go trough it. The professor refutes this and says that it will have effect of mirror that birds do not understand too; that is why this solution will not protect birds.
Secondly, the text puts out that colorful designs will aid, because birds would see the strips and avoid trying to fly through the glass. The lecture counter this point by saying that spaces between lines will look like holes for the birds, and they will try to go trough these holes.
Last but not least, the reading points that magnetic field will determine a right direction for birds. The lecture denies that and talks that birds use natural abilities for understanding directions only during a long trip such as migration, hence these magnetic held to guide birds away do not work for short trips.
