Agnostids are known as a primitive species which are related to the modern insects. There are some hypothesises about how they have lived:
1) They were free-swimming predators which was feeding from plenty of smaller organisms in the ocean. The objection is that ocean predators should have large and developed eyes to help them in chasing preys; In contrast, Agnostids have not had large eyes; So they are suposed to take advantages of other sensory facilities for recognizing their preys; But, there is no any evidence to support the exsitance of other sensory organs in their body.
2) It is possible that they were seefloor dwellers and they would have survived by scavenging dead organisms or by grazing on bacteria. The main doubt on this hypothesis is that seefloor dwellers are not able to move fast;So they lives in a limitted geographic area. Founded fossiles indicate widespread area for Agnostids whereas, if they were seefloor dweller, they would live in a small geographic area.
3) They could live or feed off larger organisms (parasites). This possibility is rejected too. Because if they were parasites, they would have small population. Lots of fossiles related to them have been founded. Technically it is not possible for large populations to be parasites; Because in that case other animals, as hosts, would be extincted.
