The article states that a silver coin dating to the eleventh century discovered at a Native America archaeological site but some archaeologist believe that the coin was placed on the site recently and provides three reasons about why they think in this way. However, the professor explains that many archaeologists believe that the coin is not faked and it represents a genuine historical evidence and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that the site that coin is found there has a great distance from Norse settlements where the coin is originated from and it has no real connection with the settlements. The professor opposes this point by saying that there may be other objects that had been found in that place which came from other places. She put forth the idea that people travel in that place from great distances and they would bring different objects with them.
Second, the author declares that no other coins were found on that site. Nevertheless, the professor contends that it is not necessarily true because the people would come to that place would not necessarily be permanent settlements. According to the professor, the people who traveled there went back to their town and they would pack up their valuable things with themselves.
Finally, the article avers that the coin that is found in the North America was useless in that place and the people who came to the North America would have known that this coin has no value in that place. The professor refuters this point by stating that the North people knew the value of the coin and these kinds of objects were appealing for them because of their beauty. Based on the lecture, the coin may be used in a necklace or other kinds of jewelry. He explains that as people in the Native America found an object beautiful, other people could use that to trade with them.
