The reading passages discusses an interesting topic about the benefits of replace medical paper record by electronic medical records, and provides intensive information, and reasons of support. However, the lecture casts doubts on the arguments exposed by the reading passage. The lecturer thinks the advantages in the use of electronical records are not so evident as the reading passage claims and refutes every of their arguments.
First of all, the reading passages sustains that one big benefit of the use of digital platform is the reduce of storage space that big amount of paper would require. The lecturer challenges this idea explaining that usually doctors keep paper records of all their activities, as backup in case they were needed like legal requirements. Consequently, there is no big difference in saving space of storage by using electronical records.
Secondly, the reading passage states that the medical errors would be eliminated or reduced considerably by using the electronic records over the papers one. On the contrary, the lecture explains how doctors continues writing their prescription and reports by hand. Moreover, the data introduced in the electronical report is done by hand and by reading those report written, also by hand, by the doctors. Thus, the possibility of errors by mispelling or wrong typewriting still high in electronic records.
Finally, the reading passages argues that the electronic records help medical research by gathering large amount of information at a time. On the contrary, the lecturer exposes the law that protect the individual privacy, in the United States that difficult the access to information.
