TPO-46 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms. However, there are efforts to persuade doctors to adopt electronic medical record systems in which informa

In view of the reading, the author enumerates 3 advantageous of using electronic databases instead of paper-based records in the United States by pointing out 3 reasons of support. Finding the statements arguable, the lecturer casts doubt on the claim made by the article and presents a piece of evidence in contrary.

At first, the author argues that it can provide the situation which spend less money since the electronic database needs any storage space. Besides, there are no costs of copying, faxing or transporting paper records when the system will become the electronic format. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that the electronic databases also need to keep information as an emergency back up which needs to pay money for it.

In addition, the reading passage holds the view that the paper-based format of keeping information increase the possibility of the error like writing error or indecent transcription which causes serious result for the patients. Also, the author believes that such these errors, never ever occured in electronic format. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that due to using the pen for write these records, it has low impossibility to occur the problem for missing the data. Furtheremore, when someone wants to enter the paper-based data in electronic format, it could increase the chance of entering fallacious data.

Finally, the author asserts the easy use of information by searching through the electronic format as the last point for supporting the advantageous of using electronic format owing to the impossibility of search beyond a plethora of information in paper-based. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by saying that there are some rule related to privacy of the patient in US and if the electronic format be in common, the doctors could not be in touch with any information which they want and the patient can block the accessibility to use of their information.
