The reading passage discusses an interesting topic about the pterosaurs and its capability of fly or powered flight, and provide extensive information and reasons for support. However, the lecture cast doubts on this claim. The professor affirms that the pterosaurs could fly or powered flight, and opposes to each of the arguments exposed by the reading passage.
First, the reading passage suggests the pterosaurs, as well as the reptiles, were cold-blooded. Consequently, its slow metabolism would not allow the generation of the necessary energy to do this activity. On the contrary, the lecture sustains that the pterosaurs had fur or an ancient type of feather, typically found in warm-blooded animals. Thus, the lecture invalid the reason states by the reading passages by pointing out this evidence.
Secondly, the reading passage explains how difficult it would be, for a big and heavy animal as the pterosaurs, to flap their wings fast enough to sustain it aloft. The lecture contradicts this idea exposing that the pterosaurs bones were hollow and, in consequence, lighter enough for the animal to sustain a long term fly.
Finally, the reading passage claims the possibility of the pterosaurs to launch themselves into the air was very unlikely, because of their weak back legs. Again, challenging the reading passage, the lecture refutes this claim by explaining the pterosaurs walked in four legs, and not in two. Thus, its could launch themselves by using the power of the four legs to push off.
