The author states that there are three methods help to reduce the population decline of the frog which in turn affect human, and he provides three reasons for support. However, the professor asserts that the three methods mentioned are unpractical and do not offer a solution for the decline of the frog population.
First, the reading claims that creating a law that prohibits the farmer from using pesticides near the sensitive frog population will help to solve the problem. The lecture contradicts this point by saying that the solution to reduce the pesticides in agriculture areas is fair and economically unpractical. In fact, if the farmer follows these strict laws, they will suffer from sever disadvantageous compared to other farmers such as a decrease in their crops and yields.
Second, the article points out that using the antifungal medication to kill the fungus that hurt the frog by dehydrating them is a second method to reduce the frog's decline. However, the professor explains that fungal treatment should be applied individually to each frog. Indeed, this method needs to treat and capture each frog separately. Moreover, this strategy will not prevent the disease of their offspring, the new generation also needs to apply the medication to them. Therefore, antifungal medicines will be a complicated and expensive method.
Third, the reading asserts that protect the lakes and marshes from the human activities to protect the frog population from threatened. The professor counters this idea by telling that the protection will not save the frog. He demonstrates that there is another factor responsible for the threatening of the frog population which is the global warming that threatens the wetland habitats. So, the prevention of human activities is unlikely to help the frog population from decline.
