The lecture completely refutes the reading passage. The professor mentions three points to indicate that frogs populations will not be saved by applying the solutions which are given in the article.
First, although preventing the use of pesticides by farmers might decrease frogs decline, it would cause economicals problems. This is because the law would be applied only in the areas that surround frogs population and farmers in that area would suffer from insects that would destroy their crops.
Second, even though the fungus treatments have shown great results in reducing frogs infection rate, it is not practical to perform because it requires to hunt each frog alone and treat it individually. The professor mentions that the treatment will treat the parent frogs only but not their offspring, this means the treatment procedure would be applied again and again.
Finally, protecting lakes and marshes could be a good idea if human activities are the main cause of frogs decline, but the main threat of frogs population is global warming. Preventing excessive water use development would not save the frogs populations.
