The main idea of both the reading passage and the lecture is about the problem of reducing frog populations. The reading passage provide three reasons for solving this problem. On the other hand, the professor rejects whatever mentioned in the passage.
First, the reading passage discusses chemicals used by farmers to prevent insects from damaging their crops which this chemical is harm to frogs. The passage suggests that laws must forbid using of this chemicals. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point and states that it cannot be done economically because farmers are relying on pesticides for high yield. The professor adds that if farmers stop using pesticides they lose more crop and cannot compete in the market with other regions.
Second, the reading passage discusses treatment of frogs. On the other hand, the professor rejects this point and states that this treatment must be performed on each frog individually. The professor adds that the treatment would be expensive and it must be repeated for the next generation of frogs.
Eventually, the reading passage discusses that frogs' natural habitats are endangered which caused by human activities. But, the professor is against this point and states that the biggest threat is global warming which cause frogs to being extinct.
All in all, the reading passage provides three reasons to solve the problem of reducing frog populations. On the other hand, the professor thinks that none of these is reasonable.
