The article discusse humpback whale migrate long distance by using stars for navigation. In the lecture, professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the arguments presented in the reading passage. He states theory presented in the article is fasinating but all the evidences are non convincing.
First of all, the speaker states there is no relationship between intelligence and navigation by star. Other birds and ducks use star for navigation but they have moderate intelligence. In fact, they have instict to navigate by looking at star and they have born with this instinct. Hence, there is no need to be intelligent to navigate by star . In fact, it is an instict animals born with and this refutes the author's claim.
Moreover, the lecturer refutes the claim of reading that due to using streight line for migration these animal use external object like star. He states they do send external object or force but it is not stars. They have earth magnatic field sensation in their brain and use them for navigation. Biomagnetic feild is used by them rather than star for finding their streight direction. It is contrary to the idea presented in the reading passage.
Lastly, the professor refutes the idea of looking at star by floating. He states other animal like shark do this but they do not migrate they want to hunt. In addition, they float on water even in days which there is not any star in the sky. Therefore, this is just pure speculation and is not related to migration. This contradict with the author's idea.
