The reading discusses, human's interest in elephants led to some beliefs about wonderful elephant behaviors. The author listed three behavior to support this idea. However, the speaker states that they are misunderstanding and presents some evidence to refute all of them.
First, the author points out that they can perceive approaching death. Hence, when they become old and weak, they break away from their herds and go to a certain location. On the contrary, the lecturer dismisses this idea and claims that when they become old they find a problem in chewing and they need to eat soft vegetations. Thus, they go some places near water to find the soft vegetation.
Furthermore, the reading passage proposes that it seems they have an artistic ability due to holding a paintbrush and using it to paint. In contrast, the speaker casts doubt on this issue by standing that they have sensitive ears that show a reaction to the sound, then it seems they repeat the action and paint.
Last but not least, the author illustrated that they fear from the mice as they left the place where there are several mice. On the other hand, in obviously contradicts with the reading passage, the speaker depicts that they are not unfamiliar with this animal and the observation in the zoo showed they do not react to the mice. In conclusion, the listening material refused all the reasons mentioned as the surprising behavior of elephants.
