TPO 54. The Salton Sea in California is actually a salty inland lake. The level of salt in the lake's water—what scientists call its salinity—has been increasing steadily for years because the lake's water is evaporating faster than it is be

The reading states that it can be possible to revive the salty lake in California and provide three reasons for support. The lecturer, However, finds all the ideas dubious and provide some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author asserts that using desalination facilities for eliminating the amount of salt is considered as a mitigation activity. In contrast, the professor opposes this point by explaining that it can cause serious problems. By using such facilities, there are amounts of depositions of solids which can be harmful and dangerous for people health. people by inhaling toxic chemical materials which are diffused in the air by chemical solid deposits are in danger.
Second, the author posits that by adding some ocean water, the amount of salt in the lake will decline. On the contrary, the speaker underlines the fact that it requires constructive equipment such as channels and pumps, also the government did not have enough resource to pay for building this expensive construction.
Finally, the reading passage holds the view that it could be possible to build a wall separating two parts with different amount of salt. Conversely, the professor dismisses the issue due to the fact that it does not work very long, furthermore it is not long-lasting because an earthquake in such an area with intense geological activity, can collapse the wall and as a result, the water of two separated part will be mixed.
