In this set of material, both of the reading and lecture discuss about cloud seeding. This method has created to prevent from hail which is harmful for farmers' crops. In this way, chemical silver iodide is sprayed on storm clouds by an airplane and it makes the clouds become rain or snow. The reading provides three reasons that this approach is effective; however the lecture finds all arguments dubious and not clear. The information the professor provides contradicts the fact outlined in the reading passage.
First, the author of read in declares that laboratory experiments have confirmed the valid of this method; in contrast the professor claims that it may be true in laboratory ambient but in real life; it could not be beneficial. Sometimes silver iodide prevents from participation in some area instead of becoming hail to rain; consequently it is plausible that the crops vanish.
Second, the text contends that cloud seeding in other areas like Asia has had a perfect effect and it has been using for controlling rain in urban area; in the contrary the lecture believes that the function of this approach in urban system and agriculture system is different. Since in urban areas there is pollution; hence the particle of pollution can react with silver iodide and create a positive aspect; however in unpolluted areas like farms, it will not be prosperous.
Third, the article expresses that cloud seeding in a few local areas has been approved like a farming region in the central USA. in this experiment was shown that cloud seeding is able to reduce the hail, conversely the professor refutes this suggestion and professes that there was the reduction of hail in neighborhood area not just USA in that year; so it was related with natural variation not this approach.
