In this set of material the reading and listening part discuss whether pterosaurs were capable powered flight or not. Listening section casts doubt on the information presented in the reading part by refusing the reasons that are mentioned in the passage.
First, the article poses that since they were cold-blooded animals and their metabolism was low so they could not absorb enough energy to fly. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that according to their fossil records their body was covered by dense hair-like cover and fur which is the main attributes of warm-blooded animals. In fact, these furs helped them to keep their body temperature under control and maintain their body warm. This means that due to their fast metabolism and existences of furs there was no need to consume more energy to keep themselves warm. By providing these features, the professor claims that they did not need more energy to fly.
Furthermore, the author holds the view that because of their giant skeleton, it is unconvincing they were able to fly. However, the lecture postulates that their body weight was so light compared to their size. Actually, she states that the structure of their bones was full of hollows which caused to reduce their weight. This means that the weight of their body was light enough despite their size, thereby these attributes allowed them to flap their wings easily, and their flight is not as impossible as the text says.
Finally, according to the text, their rare legs were too weak to make it possible to launch. Conversely, the professor disagrees with this point and explains that there are apparently differences between birds and pterosaur pushing off. She elaborates this state by comparing the launch procedure of birds with pterosaur, which means that birds mostly use their two legs during launch time, although the pterosaur utilized from all their four limbs. By running on the ground and using their four limbs there was no trouble to jump and fly for them.
