The reading and listening passage have conflicting opinions about methods to solve the problem of decreasing frog population. The author of the reading suggests three ways to solve this problem. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and brings up three reasons to support it. she thinks what the author offers is not practical solutions.
The first point the author makes is that, pesticides are a threat for frogs. It is mentioned that if the law doesn't allow farmers to use harmful pesticides near frog populations, it would reduce the harmful effect of them on the frogs. The lecturer opposes this point by explaining that this suggestion is not economical and fair for farmers. Furthermore, she argues that if the farmers don't 'use pesticides, they will lose more crops.
Secondly, the author contends that fungus is one major factor in declining frog population. the author notes that by preventing infection in large scale the frog population would be protected. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that treating individuals each frog in large scale is not practical. Besides, due to the prevention doesn't pass on offsprings, it should be done on each generation, thereby, it is really expensive and complicated.
Finally, the author states that many of the frog habitats are threatened by excessive water use by human. The article argues that, many frog species would recover from excessive water use will be prevented. This concept is refused by the lecturer with asserts that the real reasons for this is global warming. she believes that global warming contribute in frog population decline.
In conclusion, the lecturer and the author appear to be in disagreement about how to solve the problem of declining frog species. the author offers three solutions which are contradicted by the lecturer.
