In this set of material, the article and the lecture disagree about whether Chevalier de singlet's excellent memoir was recording truth adventures written the story of his life. The writer doubts the truth and provides three reasons to support. However, the professor refutes each reason as the following.

First, the reading claims that if Chevalier was the rich man at that time why he would borrow money for his parties in Switzerland '( the wealthy living city). However, the professor rebuffs this point and explains his idea as that borrowing money does not mean he was poor. The professor explains that people at that time had to sell some of their properties to have cash for their wealthy parties and that cash takes few days to be obtained; therefore, he borrowed that money.

The second example, the passage thinks that it would be impossible to write every specific detail of conversations after a long time and even though the conversation between Chevalier and Voltaire happened, it would be impossible to write every single word between them. However, the listening suggests that it was true that Chevalier wrote those conversations, and there were witnesses at their time confirmed those talks.

Third, the author claims that it would be impossible to Chevalier to escape from the prison and this story was one of his adventurer imagination. He supports that who could this guy being capable of escaping from that prison and many other prisoners who were stronger than him were incapable. The professor casts doubts the writer and thinks this story was true also, because in other historical resources at the same time of his escaping, they admitted that there was great repair to the prison's wall and ceilings. Which confirm his story to be true also.
