Undoubtedly, teaching is a demanding profession. A good teacher should enjoy many positive attributes and features in order to educate efficient generation, a generation of future which contributes to the improvement of their society and well-being of mankind. Since teachers are role models; they should show what good behavior is. To me, the most important characteristics are as follows.

Firstly, a distinguishing feature of a good teacher is knowledge. No one denies the fact that a teacher should be knowledgeable. Good teacher should have a wide spectrum of knowledge to be able to transfer their knowledge to students. However I think that to teach well, knowledge alone is not enough. Teachers should also have the skill to transfer knowledge well. For instance, I lucidly remember that when I was in the second year of high school, I had a math teacher who was very knowledgeable and educated, but I had serious problems understanding materials since he wasn't able to convey the contents well.

Secondly, I believe that knowledge by itself gets nowhere. Another important feature of a good teacher is to be patients and tolerant enough to tolerate student’s mistakes and able to forgive them. Usually students learn through trial and error; so teachers should have the ability to bear their wrongdoings and give them another chance.

Thirdly, a teacher should be wise and prudent enough to use a variety of appropriate methods depending on the situation and circumstances. On the spot decision making, changing strategies and maneuvering tactfully are all the essential characteristics of a good teacher. Teachers should be able to give students food for thought; they should make students ponder, solve problems, ask questions, discuss, criticize and use their creativity.

To put it in a nutshell, I believe that being a good teacher requires some specific attributes like being knowledgeable, being patient and prudent and definitely being a good teacher is not an easy job.
