TOEFL SPEAKING TASK 6: INSECT POLLINATION

Plants or flowers would attract insects—formally called pollinators— in order to let them transport pollens. There are two ways for plants to attract their pollinators. The first way is to use bright colors. Some insects’ eyes are extremely sensitive to colors, so plants will exploit this trait. For example, butterflies are sensitive to red and yellow. So daisies would flower in bright red or yellow. As a result, butterflies are attracted and helped in transporting their pollens without conscious.
The second way is to do this through smell. Some insects’ sight are not well developed, however, they have specialized sense of smell. So some plants would use smell to attract insects. For instance, jasmine usually flower at night. And as they flowers, they’ll send a sweet smell to the surrounding environment. And moths are attracted.
