Oct 28, 2016
We're partying with the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending October 29, 2016.
We sprint out of the gate this week with a Hot Shot Debut single in fifth place. You don't see that very often! Who's the artist? Let's see if you can guess...
Number 5: Bruno Mars "24K Magic"
Bruno Mars posts his best-ever Hot 100 debut, as “24K Magic” opens in fifth place. Bruno's album of the same name drops on November 18. This is the fourth single of 2016 to debut in the Top Five. Zayn and Justin Timberlake opened at number one with “Pillow Talk” and “Can't Stop The Feeling,” respectively, while Major Lazer debuted in second place with “Cold Water,” featuring Justin Bieber and MO.
Number 4: DJ Snake Featuring Justin Bieber "Let Me Love You"
DJ Snake slithers up a slot to fourth place with “Let Me Love You,” featuring Justin Bieber.
Justin's on tour in the U.K. right now, and seems to be having problems interacting with his audiences. On October 23, Justin briefly stormed offstage after unsuccessfully asking fans to stop screaming. It wasn't the first time, either: last year, loud fans drove him to cut short a performance on Norwegian TV.
Number 3: Twenty One Pilots "Heathens"
Twenty One Pilots are well-known for interacting with audiences on their tours, which never seem to end. They hold in third place with “Heathens,” from the Suicide Squad soundtrack album.
Band members Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun are still touring in support of their Blurryface album...which appeared way back in May of 2015. They're in Europe through mid-November. After that it's back to North America, with shows in New Zealand and Australia scheduled for next March.
Number 2: The Weeknd "Starboy"
The Weeknd is now selling his own apparel line...but you may not want to show the kids. His Starboy album drops on November 25, and this week the title cut featuring Daft Punk holds in second place.
The Weeknd has added new designs to his XO Collection of t-shirts, jackets and sweatshirts, and it's not family friendly: the designs feature hand-drawn graphics of sexual situations. Some shirt designs are already sold out.
Number 1: The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey "Closer"
Speaking of selling: The Chainsmokers and Halsey rule the Hot 100 for a ninth big week with “Closer.”
Halsey is headed for Norway...and a very important gig. On December 11, Halsey will be in Oslo to perform at the 23rd annual Nobel Peace Prize concert. This year's show will livestream on YouTube. Past performers include Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Rihanna.
Will Bruno Mars rise next week? Can the Chainsmokers reach double digits at number one? Join me us seven days for all the answers.
