We’re making our way through the five most popular songs in the Billboard Magazine Hot 100 pop singles chart, for the week ending September 14, 2013.

Our lineup has something for everybody: if you liked last week’s songs, you won’t be disappointed, since they primarily trade places. If you like new sounds, you’re also covered, with one single re-entering and another debuting.

Top 5 Songs for Week Ending Sept. 14

1. "Roar" - Katy Perry
2. "Blurred Lines" Robin Thicke Featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams
3. "Berzerk" - Eminem
4. "We Can’t Stop" - Miley Cyrus
5. "Holy Grail" - Jay-Z Featuring Justin Timberlake

Let’s start in fifth place, where Jay Z and Justin Timberlake rebound a slot with “Holy Grail.” Jay made business headlines this week - he announced he is selling his share in the Brooklyn Nets basketball team after nearly a decade of ownership - he must, since he now also represents athletes as a certified agent with Roc Nation Sports.

Miley Cyrus dips a notch to fourth place with “We Can’t Stop,” but no matter - the girl just scored a major TV victory. She’ll host the October 5 episode of perennial audience favorite Saturday Night Live. Needless to say, she’s also the musical guest.

We have a debut in third place, and what a debut it is: Eminem returns with “Berzerk.” Produced by bearded hit maker Rick Rubin, it samples tunes from 1980s rock favorite Billy Squier and hip-hop greats the Beastie Boys. Eminem drops The Marshall Mathers LP 2 on November 5.

We have a new champion single - something that hasn’t happened since June. Twelve-week champs Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrel fall to second place with “Blurred Lines.” You may be interested to know that in addition to topping the Hot 100, “Blurred Lines” went to number one in nine other countries, including Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Who knocks Robin Thicke out of the box? Katy Perry, that’s who. “Roar” hits the jackpot by climbing that all-important final step. This is Katy’s eighth career U.S. singles win…in only five years. Her fourth studio album Prism arrives on October 22.

Can Katy hold the gold? We’ll find out next week. Come back and say hello.
