IELTS Task 1 - Tables give information about sales of fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries
The tables indicate the sales of coffee and banana in the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden in 1999 and 2004. The numbers are in millions of euros.
According to the first table, in the UK, being the lead coffee exporter in both years, coffee sales increased dramatically from 1.5 to 20 in 2004. All other countries also experienced a rise but not nearly as high as the UK. In 1999, Denmark had the highest exports of 1.8.
The second table reveals that Switzerland’s banana sales more than tripled over five years period and reached 47. In both years, there was a great discrepancy between Switzerland and other countries mentioned. The sales of banana in other countries slightly rose up except for Sweden and Denmark where the sales dropped to almost half in 2004. The second significant quantity belongs to the UK with 5.5 million euros in 2004, but still far away from Switzerland record.
In brief, UK and Switzerland, respectively in coffee and banana exports, own the largest shares of exports notably different from their counterpart countries.
