The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie charts compare the proportion of electricity generation in terms of five types of fuel source in Australia and in France in the year 1980 and 2000.

It is clear that coal was the major source of producing electricity in 1980 and 2000 in Australia. Nuclear powder increased sharply to a peak in 2000, as the most important energy source in France. The capacity of energy production in two countries both improved dramatically in the year 2000.

The total production of electricity in Australia increased from 100 units to 170 units. Although the total amount in France was 10 units lower than Australian's, at 90 units, the number doubled up to 180 units in the year of 2000. 50% of the electricity was produced by coal in Australia in 1980, and the proportion saw an increase to 130 units in 2000, approximately three quarters of total amount. Coal and natural gas shared equal percentage of French half total amount in 1980, however, nuclear took over as the first option from 15 units to 126 units in 2000.

Hydro power became the second important source, producing from 20 units to 36 units, and natural gas and oil were no longer being used much in Australia, only 2% each. Coal and oil were still being used, with 25 units and as well as hydro power in France in 2000.
