Some people believe that children are given too much free time. They feel that this time should be used to do more school work. How do you think children should spend this time?
Children are the future of the nation. They are the torch bearers who are going to be the architects of the future world. It is of high importance that children should be learned and knowledgeable. For the overall development of children they need to be educated about all aspects of life. These include not only history and arts, but also social skills and include proficiency in sports, crafts etc.
A popular belief these days is that children are given a lot of free time which would otherwise have been used for more academic work. But does this statement really hold true?
I believe that for the ideal growth and development of a child, there needs to be a balance between academics and leisure time. It is not true that children waste time when they are not studying. In fact they can learn numerous things in their leisure time. They can take up a sport of their choice which will not only help in their physical growth but will also inculcate the feeling of sportsmanship and team work. Or they can indulge in a hobby like art and craft which can help in developing their creative and artistic talents. They can even take up dance and music lessons. All these skills add up to the overall personality of a child.
In conclusion, I would like to state that it would not be totally correct to assume that a child’s leisure time is a total waste of time. With the high standards of school work these days, children do require some time of their own in which they can indulge in some recreational activities. After all we all know the age old saying ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’.
