In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the arguments presented in the reading passage about the cloud seeding to prevent the hail and protecting crops from damage. She states it is not clear that cloud seeding is effective to prevent the hail and all the arguments have flaw.
First of all, although the reading claims there are labratory experiments support cloud seeding, the professor states they have flaw. She clarifies that it is true that silver iodine added to cold water changed the freezing point and made snow instead of hail but it will prevent any other percipitation as well. By preventing any percipitation drought would happen and crops would simply damage.
Moreover, reading passage argues due to effectiveness of cloud seeding in asia it would be accepted for united state. However the speaker beleives they would not necessary repeated in united state. In fact, in asia this method was done in urban area with air pollusion and polusion is a favorable condition for this pattern. So she claimes they may not occur in not polluted cities of USA.
Lastly, the professor refutes the local studies in cloud seeding which the passage claimes about. She states this argument is not convincing as the hail damage decreased in neighboring area of the study in south and east part at the same time. Therefore, it could be more possible the result of natural variation not just cloud seeding.
